Mahalo!

Kua'aina is a nice little burger joint just outside Soho. We were doing some shopping on Regent street yesterday, and when we got done around 1, we realized we were starving. We were headed toward Covent Garden and stumbled upon this place.

The interior decor felt a little forced, but I guess that's to be expected; you can't really capture the island feel when you're stuck in a tiny little cafe of Picadilly. They had various island-themed photos up around the place, and a token amount of thatch, and even a (very short) surfboard. Might have been a body board. I'm no expert on these things, brah. I am, however, something of an expert on stuffing my face, and these guys get that much right. 1/3 or 1/2 pound burgers with various toppings, grilled by default to a juicy medium, and skinny fries that are properly done all the way through in clean oil. Delicious. We tried the pineapple burger with cheddar and the bacon avocado burger. Both were excellent. More importantly, they had Kona brewery's Longboard lager and Fire Rock pale ale (bottles only, no draft). All in all, this was a great little find, although it's a bit far to make it a regular deal.

I was in a hurry when I wrote this, so I completely missed the music. They had a moderately hard rock mix playing, starting with Queen's "Hammer to Fall" when we walked in and moving through some Dio to Joan Jett. It may be a bit out of synch with the decor, but we found it certainly helped the ambience.
